Lobby х Paul&Yakov: art-inspired collaborations
20 January, 2023
Paul & Yakov actively collaborates with the Moscow art concierge, Lobby, to bring art-inspired products to life. Lobby Moscow frequently hosts exhibitions featuring various artists, assisting in the realization of their creative ideas. Paul & Yakov Moscow, represented by Creative Director Petr Polyakov, decided to create capsule collections coinciding with the launch of such exhibitions to enhance the monetization of such events.
Considering the extensive work involved in preparing the exhibitions, including media outreach and public engagement, they decided to focus on selling complementary products that align with the quality and theme of the exhibitions.
The first project in this collaboration was created to support an exhibition by artist Pavel Kharatyan. They collaborated with stylist and creative director Ekaterina Tabakova to create silk scarves featuring the artist's work. Ekaterina organized a photoshoot in Paris with renowned Russian model Yulia Arfush, with Pavel serving as the photographer. Paul & Yakov took care of all other aspects of producing the limited-edition scarf collection, using traditional methods with hand-stitching and eco-friendly paper packaging.
The scarves, available in three sizes with three different images of Pavel's work specifically created for this collaboration, were exclusively sold at Lobby Moscow and sold out even before pre-orders began.
Paul & Yakov, represented by Petr Polyakov, also developed a collection of knitted wool hats released in conjunction with an exhibition by another notable artist, Galina Smirnskaya. These hats were released in three colors and limited editions.
Another joint project for Lobby Moscow and consulting company Paul & Yakov was a collection of limited-edition wool sweaters featuring the words "Artist" and "Muse." This project was a logical continuation of the already iconic hats with inscriptions. Local knitting factories were involved in this project to adhere to the principles of sustainable production.
Such an approach to exhibitions helps small galleries and exhibition spaces to have additional opportunities for monetization by developing a system for selling related products specifically designed for each event.
The Paul & Yakov project plans to continue working on similar projects in collaboration with Lobby and also intends to expand its presence in French exhibition spaces and galleries, where similar events and launches regularly take place. This strategy not only brings additional income but also draws attention to art. Especially for expensive works of art, these limited-edition product collections provide a tangible connection to the artist or their works. They can be seen as a modern analog of lithographs.
